Ontario is open for business: CME

Published by CME webmaster on August 03, 2010

TORONTO - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) presented to the Ontario Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs today to demonstrate business support for streamlining regulatory process.

"This approach will help to demonstrate that the government is committed to improving the climate for business investment and job creation. The Open for Business Act will result in manufacturing investment and expansion of economic activity," said Ian Howcroft, vice president of CME Ontario.  "In particular, we are encouraged by the move to a risk based approach to certificates of approvals - this has been a long-standing priority for CME that is already yielding positive results.
"We are emerging from the worst recession in decades. It is critical that governments at all levels work to reduce regulatory burden on businesses."

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters is Canada's leading trade and industry association and the voice of manufacturing and global business in Canada.

The association represents more than 10,000 companies in Canada, many of which have extensive operations in the US. More than 85% of CME's members and their US entities are small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in manufacturing, global business and service-related industries.

CME's membership network accounts for an estimated 82% of total manufacturing production and 90% of Canada's exports.
